For this artist I will be doing three separate shoots based on the artist's shoots. These shoots all relate to my subject matter as they explore feelings of being trapped and alone and they also convey a sense of longing and desperation.

Image Analysis
Content
This photograph taken by a student lies in the portraiture genre and could also be considered as experimental as she used a scanner to create this image. This image is distorted as the student has edited the image to make it high contrasting black in the places where the subjects face is not pressed against the screen and then the lighter shade of the face stands out. Therefore making the image contrived. I think there is a hidden meaning behind this image. To me the photographer has portrayed a feeling of being trapped and unable to escape something, this image also conveys feelings of desperation. This is why I have chosen to use this photographer in my work as it links very closely with psychological disorders and the feelings that surround them.
Form
The photographer has positioned herself so that her hands and hair act as a frame around her face. I believe this is very effective, as it makes sure the focus of the audience is directed towards the eye and other facial features. Personally, I really like that the photographer has pressed onto the scanner in order to gain the squashed effect that can be seen on the face and hands, it creates the impression that the photographer is stuck in the image. The black and grey colour of the image enhances the effect of the photograph as it allows the hands and face to stand out against the shadows, whilst also adding a tense and striking feeling to the image.
Process
To prepare for this shoot I think the photographer would have experimented with the scanner to see how it worked so that she could produce better final images. After this I believe she would have planned how to compose and frame the images and what position on the scanner would be the most effective, for example, in this image she used her hands and hair as a frame for her face. Then I think she would have used the scanner to take the images and then uploading them to a computer and digitally enhanced them further by using editing software like Photoshop.
Mood
The mood created by this image is a dark and tense mood. To me, the image conveys feelings of desperation, being trapped and suffocated. This links closely with psychological disorders like depression and anxiety, which is why have chosen to use this artist in my coursework. I like this image and the other images as a whole collection as I think that using the scanner to create them was an original and creative idea, which turned out to be very effective thanks to the flattening of the face and hands created by using the scanner and very useful for my subject matter.

Image Analysis
Content
The genre of this image is experimental as it is made up of shadows behind a white sheet, created by using a bright light behind the sheet. The subject matter is abstracted and manufactured by using the sheet and the light to create shadows and silhouettes. I feel that this image has a hidden meaning behind it as it conveys feelings of sadness and confusion. This relates to my subject matter of psychological disorders and is the reason why I have chosen to include this work in my coursework. The meaning is immediately obvious from the composition and technique used in the image.
Form
The composition in this image is very effective as it is obvious that the photographer has thought about the placement of the models according to the placement of the light in order to create the right shapes and shadows. The hands have been pressed against the sheet to create a darker shadow, along with two of the model’s faces. The placement of the hands and faces has created a pattern, which successfully holds the image together and gives it an appealing look. The white sheet used also creates a fog effect, as if the shapes and the hands are coming out of a patch of fog.
Process
The student photographer would have had to prepare for this shoot by acquiring a white sheet and also the appropriate lights needed. She then would have had to find models to create the images. In addition, she may have done a test shoot to find out how to frame the images and which composition would look best and also to practice the lighting techniques. Finally, she would have uploaded her images onto a computer and digitally enhanced the image with editing software like Photoshop in order to create the right effect.
Mood
A tense and slightly scary atmosphere has been created in this image thanks to the lighting and technique the photographer has used to create the silhouettes. This image conveys feelings of sadness and being trapped, which are running themes throughout my coursework as they closely relate to psychological disorders such as depression and anxiety. Although I really like this image and think it is very effective, I also find it quite disturbing, which only adds to its effectiveness.

Image Analysis
Content
The genre of this photography is experimental portraiture. The subject matter has been exaggerated and slightly distorted by the use of the shower in the image, which creates a slightly scary effect. The image is slightly contrived as the photographer has decided to make the image grey, changing the appearance and feel of the overall image into a tense and unknown one. I think there is a story behind this image as it is very striking and the photographer must has made the model pose in this way in order to convey a message. Personally, I believe that the photographer has tried to portray feelings of being trapped and alone.
Form
The photographer has chosen to place her model in a shower with their hands and foot pressed against the glass shower divider. This makes this image link to her other images where she used the scanner, as the physical features of the model appear squashed and distorted. Also, the photographer has chosen to focus on the glass divider rather than the model in order to create the effect that the model is trapped and we, the observers, are on the other side of it. In addition, this allows the model’s face to be hidden, given the figure anonymity and making the image be surrounded by an even bigger sense of the unknown.
Process
The student photographer would have first found models willing to participate in her shoot. She then may have completed test shoots in order to find the best way of positioning the models and creating this work efficiently and creatively. After this, she will have then completed her final shoot and eventually then enhanced the images on editing software like Photoshop to give the dull and dark effect in the image.
Mood
A tense atmosphere and a sad and lonely mood is emitted from this photograph, thanks to the composition and dull grey in the image. These types of photographs are good to include in my coursework as they allow me to recreate the dark and dullness and thus link my coursework to psychological disorders like depression. I really like how the image looks very simple but also creates a specific mood and makes the viewer feel and think things about the image, rather than looking at it and saying it looks good they are more likely to talk about what it means and how ‘dark’ it looks. This makes the image very effective.
