Project Proposal
For this unit of work I have decided to choose 'Sublime'. The definition of sublime is 'of great excellence/beauty' or 'extreme/unparalleled'. As a result, I intend to portray the word sublime by exploring things of beauty, including people and also re-creating images which I believe to be beautiful. Beauty is entirely subjective and so I believe choosing sublime will broaden the range of subject matter I am able to use. I will also be using a key theme of colour and the absence of colour and how this can affect the image itself and the perception of beauty.
The artists I am using are Andrew McGibbon, Andy Warhol Mark Mawson and Rob and Nick Carter.
Andrew McGibbon used powder paint along with people to create his shoot called 'Super Colour'. His work will fit my portrayal of sublime and my main theme of colour as the paint pigment provides the colour and I also believe that the element of colour makes the images a lot more striking and beautiful than just an image with the model alone. I will be using Andy Warhol's plain black and white portraiture images to represent absence of colour and when developing these images I will introduce an element of colour by keeping the image black and white, apart from patterns I will apply to the models face using different coloured paint. Mark Mawson's work with ink under water fits well with sublime and colour as the images are very colourful and also very beautiful. The patterns created in the water adds to the image as the composition changes, the effectiveness of the image does too. The final artist I will use is Rob and Nick Carter. Their shoot uses paint pigment and they use the sky as the background. Their images relate to sublime as I believe they are very eye-catching and interesting images. After this I will complete two more shoots. One will capture the movement of smoke and I will also edit the images to provide different colours within the smoke. The other will be apart of my final piece where I will take images of models sat in a room and to introduce colour I will let paint run down the images. |
